StayAlert is an emergency alert system that broadcasts messages using our local radio station and KWPZ, a 63,000 watt station on Mt. Constitution. The StayAlert system communicates via satellite to the mountain top FM station, avoiding all local communication infrastructure.
Should our inter-island power & communications line ever be severed,
StayAlert will not be affected.
When disaster strikes terrestrial FM will be there

Terrestrial FM radio stations have robust emergency infrastructure. Backup towers, transmitters & power generators to make sure the signal is "always on" the air.

In 2012 the StayAlert team collaborated with FEMA & NPR Labs to create an Alert system serving 26 Gulf State radio markets.
This StayAlert project served the hard of hearing and deaf community
